SPAFFORD & SAM FRIBUSH ORGAN TRIO

April 17 @ 7:00 pm - 11:00 pm

Spafford is known for their astonishing improvisational ability and off-the-cuff extended jams, Spafford paints a picture in real-time each night with a musical palette known only to each other. It’s a private language comprised of both their talent as musicians as well as their formidable catalog of influences, spanning 90’s alt-rock radio hits to Steely Dan and The Crystal Method. Each Spafford show is a sonic pilgrimage, the journey of a team of musicians so in tune with each other that a single note communicates intent and purpose. Spafford is amongst the most creative and hard-traveling bands on the contemporary jam scene, performing countless sold-out headline dates along with high profile festival sets at Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, Firefly Music Festival, and many others.

Over the past few years, Fribush has established himself as one of the country’s hottest young bandleaders and People Please pushes the keyboardist’s music into new and uncharted territory, revealing a deep affinity for crispy, wah-wah driven funk, Hip-hop beats and sultry HAMMOND ballads. Says Fribush, “My intention is to take this music into the future. I’m trying to expand the rules about what organ trio music is.” Indeed, the album places Fribush’s music not only among the giants of soul jazz–Ronnie Foster, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Larry Young–but also in the pantheon of funkateers like Sly Stone and the Meters. Throughout the album, Fribush is joined by frequent collaborator Charlie Hunter–a guitarist that’s played an instrumental role in music culture since the late 90s –and North Carolina all-star Calvin Napper (Maze feat. Frankie Beverly). But even among his high-caliber guests, organist and composer Sam Fribush shines bright.
